Dr. William Li
An internationally recognized medical expert on the impact of diet and lifestyle on health and disease.
Dr. William W. Li is a world-renowned physician, scientist, and author. Best known for leading the Angiogenesis Foundation, Dr. Li began a crusade in 1994 to bring ‘angiogenesis’ from the research laboratory to the patient bedside. His work ultimately led to 32 life-altering, FDA-approved therapeutics and devices.
Today, Dr. Li’s vision for angiogenesis has been actualized. In addition to its clinical applications, angiogenesis is now its own scientific field and is taught in high school science classes. Dr. Li’s pioneering approach to disease-fighting revolves around finding ‘common denominators.’ Using this approach, he has brought new solutions to the war on cancer, the fight against blindness, and the specter of chronic wounds in people living with diabetes. He’s even worked with veterinarians around the world to bring new treatments to save pets and endangered species.
A health futurist, Dr. Li has worked with top universities, leading companies, and scores of advocacy groups, governments, and institutions across five continents. He has forged collaborations with the National Institutes of Health, the World Health Organization, and the Food and Drug Administration. His accomplishments have been recognized by the Milken Institute and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The Vatican has twice invited Dr. Li to present his vision for the future of health, and his wildly popular TED Talk ‘Can We Eat to Starve Cancer’ has garnered more than 11 million views. In 2010, Bono, the lead singer of the band U2, writing in The New York Times, called Dr. Li one of the top 10 to watch for in the coming decade “with the potential to change the world.”
Dr. Li is passionate about the future of health. He firmly believes that a better future can be achieved by using science to shatter the barriers of the past. He builds improbable alliances and collaborates with like-minded leaders, innovators, and culture changers striving for the same positive future. Dr. Li has authored more than 100 scientific publications in leading journals, such as Science, The New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, and more. He has served on the faculties of Harvard, Tufts, and Dartmouth. A guest expert on The Dr. Oz Show, CNN, and MSNBC, Dr. Li has also been featured in USA Today, TIME, The Wall Street Journal, The Atlantic, O Magazine, Wine Spectator, and on NPR. Dr. Li is a graduate of Harvard College, the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and he finished his residency at Massachusetts General Hospital. When he’s not writing or disease-fighting, Dr. Li enjoys traveling, cooking, and listening to an eclectic playlist of music.
