One of the best ways to prevent COVID-19 remains taking measures to prevent it from entering your body in the first place. This is where a good hand-washing routine, avoiding touching your face after being in public, and social distancing comes into play. There have also been multiple studies that have come out about the virus’ ability to live on various surfaces and the length of time that it can last. So how do you handle items like groceries that enter your home after being touched by other people? Properly washing your groceries before storing them is now an extremely important step in the shopping process; here are the steps I follow to make sure the virus is off the surface of my foods:

  1. Set up a “dirty” area with the groceries from the store and a “clean” area on a counter or table.
  2. Use a lysol wipe to clean packages, and move to the clean area.
  3. For fresh foods, rinse under running water and move to the clean area. Do not put chemicals on your fresh foods!
